Rodrigo Villamizar received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Texas, Austin, and stands as a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics.  In addition, he has a degree in Conflict Resolution and Technology Development from Harvard University and M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in Boston.

Villamizar has served on the boards of several companies including FNC/Mitsubishi, Industrial Development Bank (Colombia), Shell, Billiton (Netherlands), and Venezuela Petroleum Company  PDVSA/IFI.  He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank and as Minister of Mines and Energy for Colombia. He is currently an Economic and Energy consultant, as well as a guest lecturer and visiting professor at several universities including Harvard University, University of Texas (Austin) and University of San Diego.
